Pedestrian dies after hit by vehicle in Carbondale

CARBONDALE, Ill. (KBSI) – A pedestrian died after he was hit by a vehicle in Carbondale.

Carbondale police officers responded to the 800 block of East Walnut Street on May 22 at 9:42 p.m. for a traffic crash involving a vehicle stricking a pedestrian.

The pedestrian was identified as Marcus Valliant, 29, of Carbondale.

He was taken to the hospital by the Jackson County Ambulance Service for treatment of life-threatening injuries.

Police say Valliant walked into the roadway and was struck by an oncoming vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle stopped and called 911.

Police say the driver is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation.

Despite efforts by hospital staff, Valliant did not survive his injuries and was pronounced dead on May 23.

The investigation remains active.
