Perry County School District #32 updates community on tornado recovery

PERRYVILLE, Mo., (KBSI) —The Perry County School District #32 held a public meeting Tuesday to update the community on tornado recovery efforts and gather feedback on the future of Perryville High School.

Architect Steven Telscher provided an overview of ongoing and completed recovery projects, including temporary classrooms being installed for the upcoming school year.

The district is seeking community input on three potential approaches for rebuilding the high school: renovating the existing building, renovating and expanding, or constructing a new building.

“We want to think beyond the next year or five years and consider what the community wants the school district to be like 15 or 20 years from now,” Telscher said.

Community members can provide feedback through an online survey, which is available until July 29.

The district also provided updates on recovery projects, including roof repairs, window replacements and installation of temporary classrooms.

The temporary facilities will include a learning expo, science labs, a fitness center and music buildings, designed to provide a more cohesive school environment.
