PERRY COUNTY, Mo., (KBSI)- Perry County School District 32 has referred two juveniles to juvenile court for charges related to social media posts threatening school shootings this week.

The district’s school resource officers (SROs), Perryville Police Department, and Perry County Sheriff’s Department continue to investigate.

Law enforcement swiftly took both juveniles into custody.

After thorough investigation, authorities determined neither situation posed a credible threat, indicating no planning or intention to commit a school shooting.

The district expresses gratitude to students and adults who reported these posts to authorities without spreading rumors and fear on social media.

Appreciation also goes to local law enforcement agencies and officers for tracking down every tip.

Teachers and staff are commended for adapting to this evolving situation, taking precautions to ensure student safety.

These social media posts and rumors have caused unnecessary fear and stress among students, parents, and staff.

To address concerns, the district has cancelled school tomorrow (Teacher Collaboration) and Friday (East Perry Fair).

This break aims to alleviate rumors, allowing a return to normalcy next week.

The district prioritizes student safety and well-being. Parents are urged to discuss with their children the harm caused by sharing school violence rumors and potential legal and academic consequences.

Superintendent Jones emphasizes, “No joke, dare, or quest for social media fame justifies risking felony charges or school expulsion.”
