Perry County to begin tourism tax collection for lodging providers Dec. 1

PERRYVILLE, Mo., (KBSI) — Perry County officials announced a new requirement for all lodging providers to begin collecting and remitting a 6% tourism tax starting Dec. 1, 2025.

The change follows the passage of Missouri House Bill 199, signed into law on Aug. 28, 2025. The tax applies to a wide range of lodging facilities, including hotels, motels, campground cabins, and short-term rentals such as those listed on Airbnb, VRBO, or similar platforms, as well as rentals not listed online.

Under the new law, lodging operators must add the 6% tourism tax to all guest lodging charges beginning Dec. 1. Taxes collected are to be remitted monthly to the Perry County Treasurer’s Office using the county’s official submission form. Forms will be mailed to known operators and available online at Perry County, MO – Official Website | Official Website.

Officials ask all short-term rental operators to comply with the new requirement even if they do not receive a letter requesting remittance.

Revenue generated from the tourism tax will fund tourism projects and initiatives throughout Perry County, supporting local attractions, improving visitor experiences, and boosting the local economy.

“We value the important role lodging establishments play in welcoming visitors to Perry County,” said Trish Erzfeld, director of Heritage Tourism. “This additional tax will strengthen our tourism efforts and ensure fairness across all lodging providers. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation as we implement this change.”

Lodging operators are encouraged to review their booking systems, point-of-sale software, and online listings to ensure the new tax can be applied properly. Perry County is also exploring ways to streamline the monthly tax submission process and will share updates as they become available.
