PERRYVILLE, Mo., (KBSI) — Perry County is celebrating America’s upcoming 250th birthday with patriotic flag displays surrounding the historic Perry County Courthouse and other county properties.
County officials announced that 100 American flags have been installed around the courthouse square in Perryville as part of the America 250 celebration. Additional displays are also featured at the Perry County Joint Justice Center and the Perry County Administration Building.
Officials said the project was funded and planned through a partnership between Perry County and the Perry County Heritage Tourism Department.
Presiding Commissioner Mike Sauer said the displays are meant to honor the nation’s history, recognize military service and encourage civic pride throughout the community.
County leaders said they plan to continue using the displays during future patriotic holidays, including Memorial Day, Independence Day and Veterans Day, as well as on Election Days to encourage voter participation.
Officials said the flags will remain installed through the first week of June before returning for Independence Day celebrations in July and Election Day observances in August.
