Perryville High School football fields to undergo restoration after tornado damage

PERRYVILLE, Mo., (KBSI) — Restoration work will begin soon on the Perryville High School football fields damaged by a tornado on May 14.

The fields were littered with broken glass and debris, prompting concerns about safety. Despite cleanup efforts, remnants of glass remain on the sidelines, sidewalks and bleacher areas.

To address the issue, the school district’s insurance provider has approved funding to strip and re-sod the playing field in Pirate Stadium and the practice field.

The work will include replacing the irrigation system, laser grading for proper drainage and leveling, and applying fresh sod grass to both fields.

Superintendent Dr. Fara Jones said the upgrades will enhance safety and quality of the athletic facilities for students, staff and the community.

The middle school practice field is also under review for possible restoration work due to its proximity to homes damaged by the tornado.

The restoration work is expected to be completed in time for football practices and games to resume safely this fall.
