Perryville Moms Unite

PERRYVILLE, Mo (KBSI)- Women have been coming together through the years for many different reasons, the right to vote, the right to work, and even the right to be heard.

Now mother’s in the Perry County area are coming together to show support for each other.

That includes expectant mother’s, experienced mother’s, single mother’s and sometimes even dad’s too.

Lara Green, from the Perryville Mom’s Group says,

“So we started this group, back in 2009, and that’s when we created our Facebook page. We really just want mother’s to be able to support each other. It can feel very lonely sometimes when you think you’re the only person that’s dealing with certain issues. And you know we really agree about this and promote that, we feel your physical health is just as important as your mental health.”

Options For Women is a non-profit community outreach program in the Ste. Genevieve, Perryville, and Cape areas.

Every 3rd Wednesday of the month, the group gets together and puts on a dinner for local moms to meet and connect with each other.

Amanda King,  a local mother involved with the group says,

“I have gone to two of our dinner’s so far. I have had a blast. I’ve lived in Perryville for four years. I have four children of my own. I’m a stay at home mom. I don’t get out. I deal with a lot of PTSD, depression, anxiety, and so much more… going to these moms groups, dinner’s, has been a challenge, but also a success at the same time. Being at home with children at the same time, it does get stressful, it does get overwhelming, and um it has helped me out a lot so far.”

Looking for resources as a new mother, a single mother, and even those living on a low income, can be extremely difficult, but in the Southeast Missouri area, the group lends a helping hand.

Joyce Jackson, is the Perryville Mom’s Group Coordinator, helping put together events for the group says,

“Perryville does have, and offers a lot of resources, and you know one of those resources being, Options For Women not only are they supportive in helping with diapers and so forth but, for us we had family that who had to move here and my niece was pregnant and had two little babies. They were a great resource in helping to get her home started.”
