Perryville proclaims April 15 as ‘Purple Up! Day’ to honor military children
PERRYVILLE, Mo., (KBSI) – Perryville Mayor Larry Riney has proclaimed Monday, April 15, 2025, as Purple Up! Day to honor military children. The proclamation is made in conjunction with American Legion Auxiliary, District 13 Children & Youth Chair Nancy Wilfong, American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 133 President Carol Taylor, and City of Perryville Administrator Brent Buerck.
Military children face unique challenges, including frequent deployments, relocations, and school changes. These experiences can be emotionally taxing, with children often coping with sadness, worry, and uncertainty. To recognize their sacrifices, April was designated as the Month of the Military Child in 1986 by U.S. Defense Secretary Caspar Weinberger.
Why Purple Up! Day Matters
Symbolism: Purple represents the combined colors of the U.S. military branches: Army green, Navy blue, Air Force blue, Marines red, and Coast Guard blue.
