PINCKNEYVILLE, Ill., (KBSI) — The superintendent and principal of Pinckneyville Community Consolidated School District 204 have been placed on administrative leave as officials investigate allegations circulating in the community.

In a statement released Tuesday, Board President Brand said Superintendent Jerry Travelstead was notified of the decision by letter. Officials said the action follows reports of “allegations and rumors” and emphasized that Travelstead is presumed innocent unless proven otherwise.

During the investigation, Regional Office of Education Superintendent Matt Hickam will serve as interim superintendent.

The situation has raised concerns among some parents, with a community meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Pinckneyville Community Center. Organizers said the meeting is intended to allow parents and guardians to discuss concerns and ask questions. School administrators are not expected to attend.

District officials have not released details about the allegations.
