PADUCAH, Ky., (KBSI) — Community members are being asked to donate plastic caps and lids to help create a memorial honoring an 18-year-old Metropolis resident who died in a farming accident earlier this year.
According to St. Vincent de Paul Paducah, the Massac County 4-H is collecting plastic caps and lids to build a memorial bench or picnic table in memory of Garrett Hunerkoch.
Hunerkoch died May 9, 2026, following a farming accident.
Organizers said the project will provide family, friends and community members an opportunity to create a lasting tribute to his life and legacy.
Residents are encouraged to donate clean plastic caps and lids of all colors and sizes. Donations will be accepted through July 20.
Collection items can be dropped off at St. Vincent de Paul Paducah.
Organizers hope the community-wide effort will help honor Hunerkoch’s memory while creating a permanent memorial for future generations.
