Plow crews work around the clock as snow, cold impact Illinois roads

FOX23 News at 9 p.m.

ILLINOIS (KBSI) — Illinois Department of Transportation said snowplow and Emergency Traffic Patrol crews are working around the clock to keep roadways as safe as possible during the winter storm.

Officials said crews are currently focused on plowing and addressing snow drifting caused by high winds. While some roads may be passable, many remain snow-covered, and extreme cold temperatures are limiting the effectiveness of salt and other treatment materials.

IDOT reported eight collisions involving snowplows during the storm, reducing the number of plows available to clear roads. The department urged motorists to stay home if possible and to slow down if travel is necessary.

Drivers are reminded not to crowd snowplows and to give crews adequate space to work safely.
