Charleston, Mo., (KBSI)- In a case that has drawn significant local attention, Prosecutor Claire Poley successfully secured the conviction of Deparis Townsend for the murder of East Prairie native Josh Sisk.

The verdict was reached after a three-day trial that concluded on May 22, 2024.

On May 22, 2024, Townsend was found guilty by a jury of his peers of murder in the first degree, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon, and resisting arrest.

On July 9, 2024, Townsend was sentenced to life without parole for murder in the first degree, fifteen years for armed criminal action, thirty years for unlawful use of a weapon, and seven years for resisting arrest, with all sentences to run consecutively.

The trial, which began on May 20,2024, included expert testimony on gunshot residue and forensic pathology, eyewitness accounts, and a compelling closing statement from Poley.

The case involved multiple agencies, including the Missouri State Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control, East Prairie Police Department, Charleston Police Department, and the Mississippi County Sheriff’s Department.

Prosecutor Poley thanked these agencies and acknowledged the contributions of the jurors, bailiffs, court staff, and others who helped the trial run smoothly.

Appointed by Judge David A. Dolan in September 2021 and elected to office in August 2022, Poley has become known for her commitment to justice in Mississippi County and has shown remarkable dedication to public safety.

Her efforts have led to important convictions and a greater sense of security within the community. “I am proud of the judicial process and the cooperation of those who come forward in this terrible act of senseless violence,” Poley stated. “I hope that this conviction will encourage more community members to stand up and help us bring justice to victims.”

Claire Poley’s leadership and determination along with the team effort of law enforcement agencies continue to be essential in ensuring the safety and security of local residents.
