Police: 2 face charges after small child found with multiple drugs in Paducah hotel room

PADUCAH, Ky. (KBSI) – Two people face drug charges after sheriff’s deputies say they found multiple drugs at a Paducah hotel with a small child.

Christopher Lester, 32, faces charges of trafficking in a controlled substance-Fentanyl, possession of a 2nd degree-controlled substance-hallucinogen (mushrooms), possession of a synthetic drug, tampering with physical evidence, wanton endangerment -1st degree and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Shayla Harper, 25, of Murray faces charges of possession of a controlled substance-Fentanyl, possession of a 2nd degree-controlled substance-hallucinogen (mushrooms), possession of a synthetic drug, wanton endangerment -1st degree and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Detectives with the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at a hotel located at 5125 Cairo Road in Paducah just after 9 a.m. on Thursday, May 4.

Detectives found Lester, Harper and a small child inside the room.

Lester was found inside the bathroom where detectives found a glass smoking pipe and a plastic baggy in the toilet, according to the sheriff’s office.

Detectives also found 39 Fentanyl pills, hallucinogenic mushrooms, synthetic marijuana, assorted drug paraphernalia, and $4,158 in cash believed to be proceeds of illegal drug sales also in the hotel room, according to the sheriff’s office.

Detectives say they also found suspected Fentanyl powder in plain view in areas easily accessible to the small child that was present in the hotel rooms.

Lester and Harper were taken to the McCracken County Regional Jail.

Detectives contacted Child Protective Services. The child was released to a family member.
