CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI)- Authorities are investigating a report of shots fired at an apartment complex in Cape Girardeau.

Police responded to Legends apartment complex at 2070 N. Sprigg St. around 12:30 a.m. after receiving reports of gunfire between buildings 4 and 5, according to the Cape Police Department.

Officers recovered evidence of shots fired but found no property damage and reported no injuries.

This news comes as we learn an 18-year-old woman now faces charges for another gun related incident earlier this month. This arrest was related to a report of shots in the 2000 Block of Sprigg Street on January 8th.

“Like my building never had any issues and was relatively safe. I had been sleeping before and woke up and saw cops outside. Like we have had the police there quite a few times,” said Mandy Gantner.

Mandy Gantner is a former resident at Legends Apartment Complex in Cape. Gantner did not want to be on camera but talked to us about her time living at Legends Apartment Complex. She said she wasn’t surprised when she heard about a recent shooting.

When Gantner heard about the recent fun incident that happened there last week she wasn’t surprised as she says she never truly felt safe there.

“I did not leave my apartment at night, so I clearly didn’t feel comfortable enough to really, like, leave my apartment at night. If I came home late, it was like, get my bags, go upstairs. Like I point A to point B,” said Gantner.

Now, Gantner and current residents say they are thankful to hear about a recent arrest after a woman allegedly fired a gun during a fight.

Amazia Watkins was taken into custody Wednesday. Watkins told police she fired a gun to scare others involved in a fight.

“Our understanding is there was a large group that was in a fight. they had planned to meet at this specific location. My understanding is the suspect did not live there either. They just met up there to have a fight, basically,” said Newton.

That very reason was part of why Gantner says she was afraid as the main issue is involving people who didn’t live at the Complex to have such easy access on the premises.

“I have a problem with how legends do the gates. So the gates are always broken, so they leave them open. I don’t think they lived there. Like I think they plan to just meet up there and have a fight. And it’s crazy. And like, they shouldn’t be allowed to get in,” said Gantner.

The issue is just the latest case to raise eyebrows since the shooting in front of CVS Pharmacy nearly a year ago.

Overall people in Cape Girardeau say it’s time for peace.
