Police investigating report of shots fired at University of Tennessee at Martin

MARTIN, Tenn. (KBSI) – Police are investigating after a report of shot fired on the University of Tennessee at Martin Thursday night.

Officers from UTM Dept. of Public Safety and the Martin Police Department responded to 201 Hannings Ln. at University Village Phase 1 Building B at 8:28 p.m. in reference to shots having been fired outside of the building.

Officers found several spent shell casings from a handgun in the stairwell on the third floor.

The building was cleared by officers. UTM issued a shelter-in-place warning in regards to the campus.

No injuries were reported.

The investigation continues.

UTM lifted the shelter-in-place warning around 1 a.m. Friday.

Both agencies are working in unison to identify those responsible.
