Police investigating swatting incident in Carrier Mills

CARRIER MILLS, Ill. (KBSI) – Police in Carrier Mills are investigating after receiving a swatting call.
The Saline County Sheriff’s Office received a phone call at 8:13 p.m. on July 21 from someone who claimed he had shot and killed his father.
The caller said he was armed and barricaded in a home close to Carrier Mills High School and that he would shoot any responding officer.
Saline County Sheriff’s deputies, Carrier Mills police, Illinois State Police, Illinois Conservation Police and the Harrisburg police officers responded to the area. A command post was established in the high school parking lot.
They established a perimeter on the suspect location.
Officers made entry to an unoccupied home. After clearing the area, officers resumed their normal duties.
The fake call is known as a swatting incident where false information is reported that requires a large response from emergency personnel.
It is also a felony criminal offense.
