Police issue warning after fake movie prop money used in Perryville

PERRYVILLE, Mo., (KBSI) — The Perryville Police Department is warning local businesses after receiving a report involving fake $20 bills labeled as “Motion Picture Money.”

Police said the counterfeit bills include wording such as “Motion Picture Purposes” printed on the front and can appear legitimate at a quick glance.

Officials are encouraging businesses to remind employees to carefully inspect bills before completing transactions, especially during busy periods or near closing time.

Police advised businesses to watch for unusual-feeling bills, missing security features and customers attempting to rush or distract employees during transactions.

Anyone who suspects counterfeit money is being used is asked not to confront the individual or put themselves in danger. Police said people should try to retain the bill if it is safe to do so, gather suspect or vehicle information if possible and contact law enforcement.
