Police: Report of abducted child in Affton was false; investigation ongoing

AFFTON, Mo., (KBSI) — Authorities say a reported child abduction in the Affton area has been determined to be a hoax.

The St. Louis County Police Department said detectives confirmed there was no missing child from the 9800 block of New Hampshire Avenue.

Officials said the initial report has been recanted, and there is no danger to the public.

Detectives are seeking charges against two women in connection with the false report.

Police thanked assisting agencies, including the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department and St. Charles City Police Department, as well as community members who provided tips during the investigation.
