Police respond to incident near Fredericktown R-I Schools, students safe

FREDERICKTOWN, Mo., (KBSI) – UPDATE: Fredericktown R-1 Schools say all campuses enacted lockdown procedures Tuesday during a law enforcement incident near East Highway 72.
District officials said the decision was made in consultation with officers on the scene. Staff followed protocol to keep students safe throughout the incident.
“Our primary responsibility is to ensure the safety of students,” the district said in a statement. “We commend our staff for remaining informed and vigilant and are grateful to local law enforcement and school resource officers for their quick response and cooperation with district administration.”
Local law enforcement handled an incident across from the Fredericktown R-I High School and Middle School campus.
Authorities confirm the situation is not connected to the schools, and no students are involved. School officials said they are closely monitoring developments and taking necessary precautions to ensure student safety.
