Police urge public to avoid Bridge and Chestnut area in Carbondale

CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) — UPDATE: Carbondale Police reported a large police presence Wednesday morning at the intersection of North Bridge and West Chestnut streets.
The alert was issued at 8:41 a.m., advising the public of ongoing police activity in the area. By approximately 10:49 a.m., police announced that the scene had been cleared.
There is a heavy police presence in the area of Bridge and Chestnut streets, according to the Carbondale Police Department. Authorities are asking the public to avoid the area at this time.
