Poplar Bluff firefighter dies in line of duty after crash while responding to brush fire

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. (KBSI) — A Butler County firefighter died in the line of duty Friday after a fire truck crash while responding to a brush fire north of Poplar Bluff.
The Butler County Fire Protection District said Shift Commander Jackson Warren, 27, died from injuries sustained in the crash on March 6.
Officials said Warren was responding to a brush fire on Highway W north of Poplar Bluff when the fire apparatus ran off the road. Another firefighter who was in the vehicle was taken to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center with minor injuries.
Warren had served the Butler County Fire Protection District since October 2021 and was working his first shift as a newly promoted shift commander at the time of the crash.
He is survived by his daughter, Oaklyn; his parents, Jay and Candace Warren of Poplar Bluff; siblings Harrison and Lincoln; and other family members, along with his fellow firefighters.
In honor of Warren, Poplar Bluff Mayor Shane Cornman ordered city flags lowered to half-staff until sunset on March 12.
Funeral services for Warren will be held Thursday, March 12, at First Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff, located at 551 N. Westwood Blvd. Visitation is scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to noon, followed by the funeral service at noon.
