POPLAR BLUFF, Mo., (KBSI) — A Poplar Bluff man was arrested after allegedly stealing a bicycle and attempting to flee from officers, according to authorities.

Officers responded April 9 to the 400 block of Cleveland Avenue for a report of a theft. Police said they made contact with Christopher Kara, 19, who tried to run from the scene.

Kara was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries sustained after falling while attempting to jump a fence, officials said.

Charges of stealing and resisting arrest have been submitted to the Butler County Prosecutor’s Office.

The charges are allegations, and Kara is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
