POPLAR BLUFF, Mo., (KBSI) — Poplar Bluff Mayor Shane Cornman released a statement Thursday in response to City Manager Robert Knodell’s announcement that he is seeking medical treatment, as Knodell also prepares to face a court date in Mississippi early next year.
Knodell was arrested on Oct. 4, 2025, in Mississippi on suspicion of driving under the influence. According to the deputy’s report, law enforcement arrived to find Knodell’s vehicle turned sideways on Highway 713 north of I-69. Deputies reported blocking in the 2021 Ford after finding Knodell asleep at the wheel with the vehicle still in drive.
Knodell will appear in Mississippi court in early 2026.
In his statement, Mayor Cornman said, “Robert Knodell has taken responsibility for his actions and has sought medical treatment. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family as he focuses on his health and recovery.”
Cornman emphasized that city operations will continue without interruption.
“Our exceptional city staff has mobilized to ensure that all services continue without interruption,” he said. “Thanks to Robert’s tireless work—especially in the aftermath of the tornado—and his long hours supporting the Council and our community, he has accrued the leave needed to seek treatment without any additional cost to taxpayers.”
Cornman reaffirmed the city’s support for Knodell.
“We hired Robert because of his extensive experience, strong relationships, and deep love for Poplar Bluff. None of that has changed,” he said. “I look forward to supporting him in his recovery and successful completion of his treatment.”
