PORTAGEVILLE, Mo., (KBSI) — Portageville Fire & Rescue responded to a residential structure fire early Saturday morning that destroyed a single-story home on Baker Avenue, officials said.

Fire crews were dispatched shortly after 5 a.m. When Engine 1 and Ladder 10 arrived, firefighters found heavy fire coming from the roof and initiated a transitional attack. A working fire order was issued, bringing mutual aid from the New Madrid Fire Department.

Crews knocked down the fire and then entered the home to fully extinguish it. No one was home at the time, and no injuries were reported. The residence was declared a total loss.

Firefighters remained on scene until about 10 a.m.
