Portageville man faces multiple charges after driving stolen truck

SCOTT COUNTY, Mo.(KBSI) – A Portageville man faces multiple charges after allegedly fleeing a vehicle stop.

According to the Scott County Sheriff’s Office on Sunday, May 30th Scott County Deputies were notified of a stolen vehicle out of Ste Genevieve County, entering Scott County on Interstate 55. The notification was made by a FLOCK camera, which notified local dispatch centers.

A Scott City Firefighter, overheard information being given to Scott County Deputies by radio, and at that time spotted the stolen vehicle. The firefighter was able to follow the vehicle at a safe distance, providing updates on the location of the vehicle until a Deputy was able to intercept the vehicle at the Benton exit of Interstate 55.

Deputies attempted a vehicle stop on the stolen vehicle and the driver, identified as Joshua Weaver of Portageville, fled the vehicle stop which led to a vehicle pursuit.

According to Scott County deputies Weaver wrecked the stolen truck into a tree and fled on foot where deputies continued to pursue him. Weaver was located laying behind an HVAC unit, in a backyard of an abandoned house, where he was taken into custody.

Weaver faces charges by the Scott County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office of Aggravated Fleeing, Felony D Resisting Arrest, Felony E Receiving Stolen Property, Felony D Property Damage, Misdemeanor B.

Weaver also faces charges out of Ste. Genevieve County, and Cape Girardeau County.
