Portageville School District opens FEMA safe shelter amid severe weather threat

PORTAGEVILLE, Mo., (KBSI) — The Portageville School District FEMA Safe Shelter will open to provide a safe haven for Portageville residents during the severe weather forecasted for tonight.

The shelter will be activated when a tornado warning is issued by the New Madrid County Emergency Management Director.

Residents seeking refuge should report to the shelter, where they will be required to provide proper identification.

Aid animals are permitted in the shelter, provided they are certified, leashed, and under the owner’s control. Owners are responsible for providing food, water, and cleaning supplies for their aid animals.

Companion animals and pets are not allowed in the shelter due to space limitations.
