Postal service workers rally to raise awareness

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – US postal workers all over the US are holding rallies in response to the possible privatization of the US Postal Service.

Kraig Shefer is the Union Vice President of Branch 1015 in Cape Girardeau for the National Association of Letter Carriers and an employee of the USPS. Shefer and thousands of others are spreading awareness around what it would mean if the US Postal Service was privatized.

Making it more to where there’s someone that owns the postal service instead of you me and everyone else owning the postal service because that’s our service”, says Shefer. “It would be one person or one group that owned it, then you have this part that maybe another group owns. You would have a lot of contracted jobs.”

This comes after sources report that President Trump and his administration are considering a possible privation to the US postal service over financial losses. Stating that the agency reported 9.5 billion in losses for the 2024 fiscal year.

If the possible proposal was to be approved, it could mean implications to jobs, service quality and the accessibility of mail services.
