Power Restoration Efforts Continue in Perryville Area

PERRYVILLE, Mo. (KBSI) — Crews from Citizens Electric continue working to restore power to thousands of customers in the Perryville area after this weekends winter storm brought snow and ice, knocking out electricity to many in the area.

At the height of the outage, 12,500 customers were without power. By 3 p.m. Tuesday, that number had dropped to 5,000. Citizens Electric says more than 200 line workers, tree trimmers, and staff are working to restore service, though some isolated areas could take longer.

Mark & Cynthia Hotop, a Perryville couple, have been without power for nearly 48 hours. “Power went out, and I wasn’t ready for this,” she says. “We’ve been using propane heaters to stay warm, brought in family members, and even had to move our cats because it was too cold.”

Citizens Electric serves parts of Perry, Saint Genevieve, Cape Girardeau, Bollinger, Jefferson, and St. Francois counties. While the company has not provided an exact timeline for full restoration, some residents fear they may be without power until the weekend.

Officials are thanking customers for their patience as work continues.
