Precautionary boil water advisory issued near Cape Girardeau city limits

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — A precautionary boil water advisory has been issued for 429 addresses near the Cape Girardeau city limits and could remain in effect until 2 p.m. Jan. 7.

The advisory was issued after a water line was struck during private construction, causing a drop in water pressure in the affected area. In accordance with Missouri Department of Natural Resources requirements, residents in the impacted zone are advised to boil water before consumption until the advisory is lifted or expires.

All addresses previously registered for notifications have been contacted. Residents who wish to receive future alerts are encouraged to register their contact information at Cape Girardeau Notifications.

Residents should boil water for at least three minutes before using it for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth or washing dishes. The advisory will be lifted once water quality testing confirms the water is safe for consumption.
