Preparation for the big Election of 2024 in Cape Girardeau County

CAPE GIRARDEAU Mo. (KBSI) – It is a big day for America as many things are taking center stage but preparation locally started weeks ago.
Teams are in high gear as Cape Girardeau County get ready for the big decision of 2024.
Boxes, ballots, signs and red, white and blue are being set up everywhere in Cape County.
A historic day where local counties are wanting to make sure they are prepared for everything.
“With today being the last day of absentee voting and no excuse, it’s been challenging more than other elections just because we’ve been so busy.”
Joshua Wiseman is the Chief Deputy and Election Supervisor for Cape Counties Circuit Clerks Office.
Wiseman expects voter turnout to be high Tuesday, but he says every election day is unique in its own way.
“Not sure what to expect tomorrow, this is our first presidential election with no excuse absentee. I’ve been a lot of our voters and have taken advantage of that. I know I don’t have numbers for today but as of Saturday, we were well over 12,000,” said Wiseman.
Wiseman says he has been preparing for this election for weeks. There have been many late nights as he and his staff make sure they are fully prepared. They are trying to stay one step ahead of potential complications ensuring an easy process for voters.
“Tired but we’re all excited. For my staff, this will be our first presidential election. Covid really changed things so this will be our first post Covid so be able to see those numbers and see how things have changed and the turnout that we’re getting we’re all excited,” said Wiseman.
Wiseman is asking everyone to be patient when it comes to waiting to vote and to not forget what you need to take with you to the polls this year.
“That you do bring your photo ID. This is our first election since Missouri enacted that in August 2022, I am so making sure you have a Missouri driver’s license, a passport, or military ID or anything that meets the requirements that we have laid out at the locations,” said Wiseman.
