PADUCAH, Ky., (KBSI)- As a part of Quilt Week, the entire southeast exterior wall of A.I.R. Studio Paducah will be draped with a silver architectural quilt, designed by Alonzo Davis and coordinated by Zoma Wallace, with Pamella Miller and Andrea Portillo as studio assistants.

The quilt has been fabricated entirely with industrial materials and assembled in Davis’ studio in Hyattsville, Maryland to be on view from April 2 until May 2.

The quilt-patterned work of art consists of 66 pouches made with a special fabric normally used in the construction of homes and buildings.

Each pouch is filled with inflated airbags made of recycled materials.

Robin Pfeifer Thompson of Paducah will lead the installation of the project in the Lower Town Arts District, with assistance from the local community and schools.

This artwork was inspired by the monumental outdoor works created by artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude.

The two became famous for wrapping huge architectural structures, like the L’Arc de Triomphe pictured above.

In the same way that Christo and Jeanne-Claude inspired the world with their public artworks, Davis has conceived this artwork for the enjoyment and inspiration of the residents and visitors to Paducah.

We invite the public to come visit throughout the month of April to take selfies at the quilt.
