Red Cross Day of Giving slated for Wednesday

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – The 9th annual American Red Cross Day of Giving is a day to help individuals impacted by home fires or disasters get back on their feet.

“It’s very important we actually have some generous corporate sponsors who have partnered with us so any money that we receive on March 22nd is actually going to be doubled because of the generosity of these corporate sponsors,” said Executive Director Amanda Smith.

The importance of the donations is felt as the Missouri Red Cross responds to all types of disasters, most notably, residential fires.

Said Smith: “In Missouri alone, we respond to almost five home fires every single day, so the support of our volunteers is critical especially as you know climate disasters are growing in frequency and intensity.”

With the Day of Giving taking place Wednesday, March 22, the Red Cross hopes those who want to help is active in any way possible.

“We do have some blood drives going on at various points around the area but primarily it is an online campaign you can go to.”

The SEMO Greek Week Blood Drive commences Sunday, March 26, and concludes March 29. Times are 11-6 p.m. all four days and will take place at the SEMO Student Rec Center.
