CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — The American Red Cross is urging blood donors to give now to help protect the blood supply from the impact of severe winter weather and wildfires.

Hundreds of blood drives have been canceled due to the weather, resulting in about 15,000 uncollected blood and platelet donations in January.

Donors of all blood types, especially type O negative, are needed to help save lives. Platelet donors are also urged to give.

The Red Cross is offering incentives for donors, including a chance to win a trip to the Super Bowl and $15 e-gift cards.

To make an appointment, download the American Red Cross Blood Donor App, or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).

Eligible donors can save time by using RapidPass to complete their pre-donation reading and health history questionnaire online.
