Red Cross to host training for disaster response volunteers

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo (KBSI) – The American Red Cross will host a training for new local disaster response volunteers.
The training will take place on Saturday July 12, from 9 am until 3 pm.
Red Cross chapter office, 20 S. Mount Auburn Rd, in Cape Girardeau.
The Disaster Action Team (DAT) volunteers provide immediate compassion, access to assistance and resource information to their neighbors in their time of need.
Micheal Sullivan, is the Executive Director of the northeast chapter of the American Red Cross for Missouri and Arkansas. He says they respond when someone loses everything to a house fire and assist with resources and for emotional support he talks about the training.
“So, during that training we want to make sure our volunteers have everything needed to respond and so they’ll go do a course. It typically is from 9-3″ says Sullivan. “We start at 9, if we get don earlier that’d be great. We do provide lunch during the training and so our trained volunteers will teach other volunteers how to do their jobs and how to respond when it comes to times of disaster for these home fires and the process that we take to provide the services and just to be that comfort and care that’s needed in some of the darkest times.”
