Registered sex offender arrested near Sikeston school, accused of failing to register

SCOTT COUNTY, Mo., (KBSI) — A registered sex offender wanted out of Dunklin County was arrested in Sikeston after authorities say he had been living in Scott County for months without properly registering.
According to the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, deputies received information Thursday, Aug. 13, that Logan Michael Sloan had reportedly been staying in Scott County for several months.
Investigators confirmed Sloan was a registered sex offender and had been listed as an absconder out of Dunklin County.
Deputies went to the Wendell Apartments in Sikeston, where Sloan was believed to be staying, and found a man matching his description. The sheriff’s office said the man initially denied being Sloan but later acknowledged his identity.
Authorities said Sloan had two active Dunklin County warrants for a probation and parole violation and failure to register as a sex offender.
Investigators later determined Sloan had allegedly been living at the apartment since about March. The sheriff’s office said the apartment is approximately 872 feet from Lee Hunter Elementary School, within the 1,000-foot restriction for certain registered sex offenders.
Sloan was arrested on new Scott County charges of failure to register as a sex offender as a prior and persistent offender and residing within 1,000 feet of a school, child care facility or victim’s residence.
He was booked into the Scott County Jail on the new charges and outstanding Dunklin County warrants and is being held without bond.
