SIKESTON, Mo. — Dr. David Pfefferkorn, an internal medicine physician who practiced in southeast Missouri for more than four decades, died at home Sunday, Sept. 27, according to Saint Francis Healthcare System.
Pfefferkorn continued caring for patients in Sikeston until his death, the health system said.
A Chaffee native, Pfefferkorn attended medical school and completed his residency at Saint Louis University before returning to southeast Missouri to practice. He was certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
Saint Francis described Pfefferkorn as a compassionate physician who stayed current on medical research, shared information with colleagues and helped consult on difficult cases.
He also helped establish Mission Missouri in Sikeston, an organization that supports people and families affected by substance abuse.
Outside his practice, Pfefferkorn enjoyed spending time with his family on his back porch and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.
The health system said he leaves a legacy of service, kindness and dedication to his patients and community.
