MURPHYSBORO, Ill. (KBSI) – U.S. Rep. Mike Bost (R-Ill.) will present Certificates of Congressional Recognition to Clark County first responders Sept. 25 for lifesaving actions that saved a colleague’s life during an August emergency.
The ceremony will be held from 11 to 11:45 a.m. at the Clark County Courthouse, 501 Archer Ave., in Marshall.
On Aug. 17, paramedic Brian Ketterer collapsed while treating a cardiac arrest patient. EMS Supervisor Michael Bridges immediately performed CPR on both Ketterer and the original patient, successfully restoring Ketterer’s heartbeat after following Advanced Cardiac Life Support protocols.
Bost said the quick response of Bridges, along with Paramedics Jason Wimbley and John Heleine, EMTs Makayla Hargrave and Rebecca Herrera, and Marshall Police Officer Hunter Gower, saved Ketterer’s life.
“As a former firefighter, I understand the kinship felt between first responders; it really is like a family,” Bost said in a statement. “I am humbled to have the opportunity to honor these everyday heroes whose quick thinking, skill and teamwork save lives – even the lives of their colleagues.”
Local media are invited to attend the event.
