CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — State Rep. John Voss announced a collaborative effort Thursday to address recurring flooding issues along Kingshighway in Cape Girardeau.

According to Voss, he has joined with Cape Girardeau Mayor Robbie Guard and leaders from the Missouri Department of Transportation’s Southeast District to evaluate existing flood control measures and identify long-term solutions.

The effort will include a comprehensive assessment of flood-prone areas along the corridor and the development of recommendations for inclusion in Missouri’s State Transportation Improvement Plan.

Voss said recent flash flooding events have highlighted the need for additional mitigation measures along Kingshighway, a major transportation route used for commerce, emergency response and daily travel.

The initiative aims to improve infrastructure resilience, enhance public safety and reduce the impact of future flooding events in the region.

No timeline for potential improvements was immediately announced.
