Robbery suspect found in attic after 5-hour standoff
DYERSBURG, Tenn. (KBSI) – Dyersburg police arrested a robbery suspect after a five-hour standoff in Evansville on Monday.
Luis Martinez, 26, of Dyersburg faces charges of aggravated robbery and conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery. He is being held pending Dyersburg City Court action.
Detectives were investigating the September 24 armed robbery of Advance America on Lake Road and had information that Martinez was in a house in Evansville in the company of children.
Dyersburg Police Department’s Special Response Team’s (SRT) negotiators attempted negotiations for nearly two hours before two young children walked out of the home. Negotiators continued trying to convince Martinez to give himself up.
After five hours of attempted negotiations, the team made entry into the home. Martinez was taken into custody after SRT introduced chemical agents into the home and removed a portion of the ceiling where Martinez was found hiding in the attic.
