POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. (KBSI) – The Rotary Club of Poplar Bluff donated $1,500 for the Rotary ‘Good Habits’ Store at Lake Road Elementary.

The store rewards punctual, well-behaved, high-performing students.

Representatives from the civic organization made the donation on Thursday, Oct. 6. The funding will be used to stock toys, games, art supplies, snacks and clothing items in a makeshift store set up for students to spend dollars/points earned.

The Rotary Club initially adopted the elementary school in 2012. The club established the Rotary Store in the gymnasium each month as a way to improve attendance and reduce behavior referrals so educators can focus on academic achievement.

Principal Rondi Vaughn says the concept works as an ancillary to the positive behavioral interventions and supports program under which Lake Road has achieved gold-level implementation for the past six consecutive years.
