Route Z to close for more than a year for Hubble Creek bridge replacements

CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, Mo., (KBSI) — A section of Route Z near Gordonville will close beginning Monday, Aug. 24, as crews replace two aging bridges over Hubble Creek.

The Missouri Department of Transportation said contractor crews will replace the bridges over Hubble Creek and Hubble Creek Overflow. Both one-lane structures will be replaced with wider bridges capable of carrying two lanes of traffic.

The closure will extend from West Clark Street to County Road 222.

County Road 222 is expected to remain open during the project, although MoDOT said short-term closures may be necessary while crews construct a new county road connection to Route Z. Officials said advance notice will be provided before those closures.

A signed detour will direct motorists along Route 25, Route A and Route F to Route Z.

Construction is scheduled to begin Aug. 24 and is expected to continue through Sept. 1, 2027, weather permitting. The work zone will remain in place 24 hours a day until the project is completed.

Motorists are urged to use caution near the construction area.
