Rural Health, Inc. collects over 500 pounds of food to help local pantries

Rural Health Kids Food Drive 2

SOUTHERN ILLINOIS(KBSI) – Rural Health, Inc. (RHI) held several kid food drives during the month of May to help local food pantries stock up as they typically see an increased need during the summer months.

According to Rural Health, Inc each year, local pantries see a 700 to 800% increase in the number of children and their families who benefit from the program when compared to other times of the year. This is due to children not being fed through the school’s nutrition program during summer months.

RHI reports that over 110 bags (500+ pounds) of food, in addition to monetary donations, were collected and distributed to Arrowleaf Food Pantry in Vienna, COPE Food Pantry in Metropolis, and Shawnee Development Food Pantry in Anna.
