CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI)- The Seniors and Lawmen Together memorial ceremony poignantly reminded us of the courageous sacrifices made by law enforcement officers in the State of Missouri.

“It was an incredible event as always, SALT did an amazing job, in hosting this every year, at Cape Bible Church.”

Officer Bobby Newton with the Cape Girardeau Police Department says the annual event brings back history for all law enforcement.

Newton says, “The men and women that sacrificed their lives to do the job that we do today, we wouldn’t be able to do the job that we do. Without the history that comes with it and unfortunately we have a long list of officers that made the ultimate sacrifice and support.”

Alex Broch is the Assistant Chief of Police, also attended the memorial.

He says, “Every year we get together, and we’re able to show respect and to honor the officers that killed in the line of duty.”

According to broch this is sometimes the only chance families get recognition for their loved ones.

Broch says, “So we like to make sure that we talk about that fallen officer so that they’re never forgotten.”

As each officer’s name is read off, one by one, an officer brings a rose to the memorial, to honor them for their ultimate sacrifice.
