Saint Francis Foundation distributes 150 hygiene kits in Hayti
HAYTI, Mo. (KBSI) — A donation of 150 hygiene kits from Missouri DeMolay is helping southeast Missouri families access essential household items through the Saint Francis Foundation’s Day of Caring program.
The kits were donated by Missouri DeMolay, a youth leadership and development organization, and included items such as soap, shampoo, razors and first-aid supplies.
The distribution was part of the Saint Francis Foundation’s Mobile Wellness program, which operates a mobile mammography unit that travels throughout southeast Missouri providing breast cancer screenings. The foundation also helps cover the cost of mammograms for people who cannot afford them.
Several times each year, the foundation expands those services through Day of Caring events, providing food, diapers, household products and other resources to families in need.
“You see a lot of need when you go to these Day of Caring events,” Saint Francis
Foundation Executive Director Stacy Huff said. “A lot of families just can’t make ends meet and need that little extra help. So it’s great to be able to provide these necessities for them and give them some hope, comfort and a little kindness.”
Huff said the Day of Caring initiative began in 2023 when the Mobile Wellness program launched. Since then, the foundation has hosted 33 events and served more than 5,600 households across southeast Missouri.
The Hayti event took place at Faith Temple Complex and was supported by Procter & Gamble, the Southwest Foundation and First State Community Bank. Huff said approximately 10 bank employees volunteered to help distribute supplies during the event.
The next Day of Caring event is scheduled for July 8 in Perryville. Another Day of Caring and Back-to-School event is planned for Aug. 3 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Saint Francis Clinic Farmington, located at 515 Maple Valley Drive.
Huff said community partnerships and volunteers continue to play a key role in helping the foundation connect families with needed resources throughout the region.
