Saline County sheriff outlines courthouse conduct, limits on disruptive behavior

SALINE COUNTY, Ill., (KBSI) — The Saline County Sheriff’s Office issued a statement addressing courthouse conduct, saying constitutional rights are respected but behavior that alarms or disrupts others will not be permitted.
The sheriff said the office supports First Amendment protections, but entering the courthouse masked and hooded with the intent to alarm or disturb citizens or government employees is not acceptable. The statement also said individuals will not be allowed to record juveniles during scheduled appointments within Saline County Probation, citing privacy concerns.
Officials noted that the courthouse remains open to anyone conducting legitimate business. However, activities such as loitering, bathing in restrooms, or actions that alarm or disturb others are prohibited due to safety, comfort and sanitation concerns.
The statement followed a recent incident involving a masked individual inside the courthouse.
