MARION, Ill., (KBSI) — The Salvation Army of Southern Illinois reported its food pantries in Marion and Centralia served 7,518 households, 17,092 individuals and 4,181 children in 2025, citing increased need across the region.
Associate Director Darla Harms said the organization is focused on providing consistent access to nutritious food for families facing food insecurity.
“Behind every number is a person, a family and a story,” Harms said in a statement. “Our mission is to ensure that families throughout Southern Illinois have consistent, reliable access to nutritious food.”
The organization said its Marion pantry recently received high marks during an audit conducted by the St. Louis Area Foodbank, which cited the facility’s organization, cleanliness and operational standards.
As food insecurity continues to affect families in Southern Illinois, the Salvation Army said it plans to continue expanding programs and services to meet demand.
The nonprofit is encouraging community members and businesses to support its efforts through financial contributions. Officials said monthly donations help purchase food and sustain pantry operations throughout the region.
