SOUTHERN ILLINOIS (KBSI) — The Salvation Army of Southern Illinois is urging the community to help finish the Christmas season strong by participating in its “Two Days of Joy” campaign on Dec. 19 and 20.
The campaign aims to fill every red kettle bell-ringing location in Jackson, Franklin, Williamson and Saline counties. Officials said more than 200 volunteer hours still need to be filled across multiple locations.
“We still need to fill over 200 hours of bell ringing,” said Darla Harms, associate director of The Salvation Army of Southern Illinois. “If we can fill every spot, then we can raise more than $20,000 to go toward rent and utility assistance for struggling seniors, veterans, single parents, people with disabilities and families in need. If people aren’t available those two days, there are still other days and times available.”
Those interested in volunteering to ring bells can sign up at Register to Ring.
Community members who are unable to volunteer but wish to donate can give online at salarmy.us/SouthernIL25 or mail a check to The Salvation Army, P.O. Box 1112, Marion, IL 62959. Donations by mail should include “Red Kettle” in the memo line.
The Salvation Army’s fundraising goal for the season is $165,000 to support services across nine counties in Southern Illinois.
