Scam Alert: Fake sheriff’s deputies targeting residents

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, Ky., (KBSI) – Residents are being warned of a scam in which callers claim to be deputies with the Sheriff’s Office, saying the person has a warrant for missing a court appearance.

The scammers provide fake badge numbers and violation codes, then demand payment to resolve the issue. This is a scam.

The Sheriff’s Office will not call residents directly to ask for money over the phone. Residents are advised to spread the word to friends and family to avoid falling victim to the scam.
