Scott City fire crews put out residential fire
SCOTT CITY, Mo., (KBSI)- On Monday, May 6th, 2024, the Scott City Fire Department responded to a residential first alarm structure fire in the 300 block of West Missouri Boulevard in Scott City.
Upon arrival of the first Engine the incident was upgraded to a working fire in defensive mode to protect the home.
Upgrading the incident to a working fire automatically brings in mutual aid from the Cape Girardeau Fire Department, N.B.C. Fire Protection District, and Chaffee Fire Department along with Benton Fire assigned to Station 1 for city coverage.
Heavy fire was coming from the west side of the house with heavy smoke from all sides of the residence along with a neighboring residential exposure that was catching fire located only a few feet from the home.
Scott City Police Department & North Scott County Ambulance was also on-scene and assisted with deploying equipment to assist fire personnel during the incident.
Due to the amount of fire and the neighboring exposure in immediate danger, the scene was quickly upgraded to a second alarm.
A second alarm moved Benton Fire to the scene along with the assistance of Scott County Rural Fire Protection District and Oran Fire Protection District to the scene.
Scott City Communications also staffed a third dispatcher within a few minutes to assist with increased communications as needed.
Fire personnel quickly established a water supply and transitioned to offensive mode.
Once the incident was contained personnel completed overhaul to ensure all fire and hot spots was extinguished.
All occupants were out of the structure upon our arrival and no injuries were reported during the incident.
The fire cause Investigation determined the origin of the fire was electrical.
The home is considered a total loss displacing two adults and three children.
The Red Cross was contacted for additional assistance for the family.
