Scott City Fire Department sharing vital winter weather tips and what to do if you see caution tape on a vehicle

SCOTT COUNTY, Mo. (KBSI) – Scott City Fire Department sharing winter weather tips for the area.

The Scott City Fire Department stated in a Facebook post that they are staffing their Station #1 tonight and tomorrow with a crew, so they are prepared to respond to emergency situations as quickly as possible if needed.

The department urges that citizens have enough food and important necessities as power outages are possible as freezing rain/ice is forecasted.
According to the Scott City Fire Department a warming shelter will be setup at the FEMA building and First Assembly of God Church on Dearborn Street in Scott City.
They also urge citizen’s using a generator to do so safely.
You should never place a generator in your garage or near a window/door to your home as deadly CO may be able to enter your home.
Additionally, for those traveling on roadways if you see a vehicle wrapped in caution tape, this indicates that emergency personnel have checked the vehicle and the scene is clear.
This means that authorities do not need to be contacted, and the vehicle will be removed by a towing service when safe to do so.
